The Patna University (PU) has decided to roll back the increased fee for its postgraduate courses. The fee for 4 semesters of postgraduate courses in science, arts and commerce subjects was increased to Rs 7000 in May this year under the proposed semester system. However, growing protests of students over the increased fee urged the university to revise it from Rs 7000 to Rs 4700.

Students of courses involving practical work will be required to deposit Rs 400 instead of Rs 800 per year. Likewise, students enrolling in courses involving excursion will have to deposit Rs 500 during admission.

However, the university decided to keep the fee of self-financed and vocational courses as it is as admissions to these courses for 2012 batch has already begun and would end on July 14, 2012.

The decision to revise the fee structure for postgraduate courses was taken in a meeting headed by the university vice-chancellor. Earlier in May this year, the academic council of PU had decided to set a uniform fee structure for vocational courses in all institutes.

Under the revised fee structure, for BCA the fee would be Rs 36000, for BSc biotechnology and environmental science - Rs 45000, for BBA and mass communication – Rs 60,000, for PGDCA – Rs 15840, for MA (music)- Rs 20,780, for BA (social work) – Rs 24,000, for BCom (H) – Rs 33,420, for MSc (environmental science) – Rs 60,000, for MSc (biotechnology) – Rs 36000, for MSc (biochemistry) – Rs 40,000, for MCA – Rs 54000 and for MBA and master’s in finance & control –Rs 36,500.
