The TOEFL test will have an advanced security system in place, after ETS, the creator of the test announced their decision to introduce a new biometric voice identification system.

The measure will make the existing TOEFL programmes more comprehensive and secure, in order to authenticate the people attempting the test across the world.

Officials from ETS revealed that the new biometric voice identification technology will help improve the integrity of the test.

The software, which is similar to the advanced speaker identification systems used by law and government agencies, will match statistical patterns, compare speech samples and use voice classification systems. The samples for the same will be taken from candidates taking up the test.

Sources revealed that the technology used generates voice prints that can be used for detailed analysis and to authenticate test takers. The state-of-the-art technology will also further increase the security of the test, and prevent people from taking unfair advantages. They added that the creators of the test are committed to improving and introducing measures to counter existing malpractices.

The technology will be given a test run to investigate security this year and will be implemented on a larger scale from 2013.
