New York University expansion plan approved

New York University (NYU) is all set to expand its premises after the city council gave final approval for a huge expansion plan.  New York University won the approval by a landslide of 44-to-1 votes. The council has approved a chain of permits, map changes, and zoning amendments that will permit the university to put up 4 buildings that together will provide skyscrapers worth of classrooms, dorm rooms and office space to a leafy 12-block parcel occupied by two university apartment complexes- Washington Square Village and Silver Towers- south of Washington Square Park. The huge expansion of the university will change the feel and look of Greenwich Village.

Sources from the university stated that the expansion of the university would create the research and educational space much needed by the university and will help in maintaining academic excellence N.Y.U has 50,000 students and 17,500 employees and the new expansion will be able to provide dormitories and class rooms for the rising enrollment of students in the university. The accommodation of the increasing students will allow the university to compete with other big universities.
