Australia attracts Indian students yet again

The number of Indian students aspiring for Australian universities for higher studies seems to be back on track after a sharp decline followed by the racial attacks of 2010.

Sources from Immigration department reported that over 1.8 lakh international students had secured student visas in 9 months period till March 31, 2012. Data available also shows a 4.5% rise in applications as compared to applications made during the same period in 2011. Of the total visas issued to the international students till March 2012, 19.5% were Chinese, and 14% were Indian nationals.

As per the report, approximately 8,000 Indian candidates have applied for student visa in Australia within a period of 9 months till March 31, 2012 which indicates a steep rise of 120% when compared to the number of applicants in 2011.

As per a report, the number of students enrolling for courses such as hairdressing and cookery has reduced, after the government imposed strict regulations to prevent easy access to permanent residency for students applying to these courses.

The Australian universities’ gaining their popularity among Indian students is a good sign for Australian colleges who had discouraged mass rejection of international applications by the Immigration department. A series of racial attacks in 2010 resulted in reduced number of applications to the universities in Australia.
