The Educational Testing Service (ETS) announced the introduction of its TOEFL India Scholar Programme. This programme includes three $10,000 Scholarships for the UK, US, and Canada and four $5000 Scholarships to any of the three countries. Students taking admissions in postgraduate education programmes in 2010 are eligible for this programme.
Since Independence it has been India’s dream to ensure all children are enrolled in primary schools. However, drop-out levels are high despite all efforts. What new initiative would you recommend to ensure minimal schooling, and how would you implement it? Explain why your recommended initiative will be perceived as relevant by Indian society and why it will be effective.
The essay will be judged on the analysis and clear expression of the social, economic and political environment of the country and the initiative recommended. The winners, to whom the Scholarships will be awarded, will be chosen on the basis of personal interviews.
