The University of Pune (UoP) has decided to issue eligibility certificates online from the academic year 2012-13. The students from outside the UoP system aspiring to enroll to degree and postgraduate degree course in the university require eligibility certificate.
Generally, such students are given provisional admissions and then later they can register for eligibility certificate within 2-3 months of their provisional admission. All the key documents such as degree certificate, marks card, transfer certificate and other certificates are verified by the BCUD (board of college and university development) before granting the eligibility certificate to respective candidates.
The admission is not taken confirmed until a candidates gets the eligibility certificate. If a candidate fails to secure the certificate he is barred from taking the university exams. Till now the process of issuing the eligibility certificates was held manually at the colleges affiliated to the university and postgraduate departments of the university.
The application forms are submitted between August and October every year followed by the issue of eligibility certificate. The process used to take time due to many factors such as staff crunch and surge of application forms.
The university has 625 colleges affiliated to it and recognizes 300 institutes which make it a largest university in Maharashtra.
However with the advent of online system, all the issues will be resolved. Students will now get their eligibility certificate within the mentioned time and in a transparent and efficient process.
In order to bring the new system in place the university has already scheduled workshops and training sessions for its colleges and post graduate departments which are on campus. These workshops and training event will be conducted between July 10 and 13, 2012 at various locations across the UoP area of Ahmednagar, Pune and Nashik districts.
The initiative of the university to introduce online system is only a part UoP’s steps towards implementing different online services for students for issuing certificates and key documents and enabling smooth admissions. The university has already gone online to provide migration certificates, enroll external students, postgraduate admissions, affiliate colleges, admit foreign students, and submit research proposal.
On similar lines, the university has implemented online element while conducting exams for specific subjects in the engineering department as well as the entrance exam for PhD admissions.
