Karnataka State Open University-Admissions for BEd, MBA to begin in January 2019

Karnataka State Open University- The admission process for the courses such as B.Ed and MBA of the Karnataka State Open University will begin in January next year. While speaking to the media at Mysore, D Shivalingaiah, Vice Chancellor of KSOU announced that the University would commence admissions for BEd and MBA courses for the academic year 2018-19 as early as January next year, said a DHI report.

The official further said that the University Grants Commission (UGC) has already informed KSOU about the recognition of these courses. Keeping in mind, the scarcity of time for the admission process for 31 courses, which were earlier recognised by the UGC, the KSOU will provide an opportunity for the students to get admission for five courses such as MA (Urdu), M.Sc. Biotechnology), M.Sc. (Bio-Chemistry), M.Sc. (Information Science), and Master in Library Science (MlibISc).

Shivalingaiah also said that admissions would be offered to those courses based on ascertaining the number of seats vacant, as already 20 odd students had been given admission. The admission for these courses will also be made in January along with the admissions for B.Ed and MBA courses.

Approval

The Academic Council and the Board of Management have approved programmes such as BSc (PCM), BSc (CBZ), BSc (PMC), BSW, BBA, BCA, MA (Education), MSW. The varsity has also submitted a proposal to the government for the creation of posts as per the rules of the UGC. Regarding that, a proposal would be sent to the UGC seeking permission for introducing the above programs from July 2019, the Vice-Chancellor said.

Admission Process of Karnataka State Open University

Students can apply online for admission from January next year, and they can also remit fees through SBI net banking or other banks, or internet platforms, State Bank ATM-cum-debit card, other bank’s debit cards or credit cards, any SBI branches, UP, which with the help of SBI collect application is available on the university website, ksoumysore.karnataka.gov.in. The students can pay the fees online evening during holidays as well, the VC added.

The Karnataka State Open University established on 1st June 1996 Vide Karnataka Govt. Notification No. ED 1 UOV 95 dated February 12, 1996 – KSOU (Act 1992) is considered to be a reputed Open University amongst the open learning institutions in the country. KSOU is recognised by University Grants Commission (UGC) New-Delhi vide order No: F.No 14-5/2018 (DEB-I) Dated : 14th August 2018  for the period from 2018-19  to 2022-23.in which the Government of India has envisaged a more significant role for the Open and the Distance Education System by recognizing and treating the Degrees/Diplomas/Certificates awarded through distance mode at par with the corresponding awards of Degrees/Diplomas/Certificates obtained through the formal system of education.

Accordingly, the Degrees/Diplomas/Certificates awarded for programmes conducted by the ODL institutions, recognised by the erstwhile DEC/UGC, in conformity with UGC Notification on Specification of Degrees should be treated as equivalent to the corresponding awards of the Degree/Diploma/ Certificate of the traditional Universities/Institutions in the country.

Karnataka State Open University is situated at the North–Western end of the Manasagangotri campus, Mysore. The campus, which is about 5 Kms, from the city centre, has a serene atmosphere ideally suited for academic pursuits — the University houses at present the Administrative Office, Academic Block, Lecture Halls, a well-equipped Library, Guest House Cottages, a Moderate Canteen, Girls Hostel and a few cottages providing limited accommodation to students coming to Mysore for attending the Contact Programmes or Term-end examinations.
