Online Registration of TIFR Graduate School Admissions 2019

The State-owned Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) is commencing its online registration process for Graduate School Admissions 2019 on October 16, 2018. According to the NDTV report, apparently due to technical reasons, the link for submitting an online application will be activated at 3.00 PM on October 16, 2018

The last date for the submission of appeal has been extended to November 15, 2018, citing the latest update released by the TIFR, the report said. TIFR will conduct a nationwide entrance exam on December 9, 2018, and the results will be declared on January 10, 2019. Candidates will be called for interview based on their entrance examination marks. The interview will be held in February-April 2019.

TIFR exam for biology is also called Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS). Department of Biological Sciences (TIFR), TIFR Centre for Interdisciplinary Sciences (Hyderabad) and National Centre for Biological Sciences (Bangalore) are few of those institutes that accept the scores of JGEEBILS.

Upon selection candidates enrolled in the PhD programme will receive Rs. 25000 as monthly fellowship. Integrated PhD students will receive a monthly fellowship of Rs. 16,000 for the first year. At the end of the first year, upon satisfactory performance, the fellowship is enhanced to Rs. 25,000 per month (further raised to Rs. 28,000 after registration for PhD). The monthly fellowship amount for M.Sc. (Biology) Students are Rs. 16000 and for M.Sc. (Wildlife Biology & Conservation) Students it is Rs. 12000.

Eligibility

Candidates in the final year of qualifying degree can also apply.

Mathematics:

For Ph.D. : M.A./M.Sc./M.Tech.

For I-Ph.D. : B.A./B.Sc./B.E./B.Tech. (Students already having/completing an M.Sc. degree by July 2019 are not eligible for I-Ph.D.).

Physics:

For PhD: M.Sc./M.S. in Physics, or equivalent, on completion of programmes(s) of duration not less than five years in total.

For I-Ph.D.: M.E./M.Tech./B.Sc./B.S./B.E./ B.Tech./B.Chem. In Physics, Engineering Physics, or equivalent degree, on completion of the programme(s) of duration not less than three years in total.

Also, I-Ph.D. candidates with not less than four or more years of university education who clear the written test may be considered by TCIS for their PhD program.

Chemistry:

For Ph.D.: M.Sc./B.E./B.Tech./M.Pharm. or equivalent degree.

For I-Ph.D.: B.Sc./B.Pharm./B.S. degree or equivalent degree.

Candidates with B.E./B.Tech degrees can optionally get an M.Sc. degree by fulfilling requirements.

Biology:

Candidates will be shortlisted for interview based on written test marks, CV and Scientific Write-up.

For PhD: Masters in Basic Science (M.Sc. Physics/Chemistry/Any branch of Biology) or any professional Master’s Degree (M.Pharma./M.Tech.), or a > 4-year degree program (e.g. MBBS, BDS).

For I-Ph.D./M.Sc.: Bachelors in any Basic Science (Physics/Chemistry/Any branch of Biology) OR any 4-year degree program that awards a “Bachelor’s degree” including B.Tech., B.E., B.V.Sc., B.Pharma. (4-year course).

Computer & Systems Sciences (including Communications and Applied Probability):

For Ph.D. : B.Tech./B.E./M.Tech./M.E./M.C.A./M.Sc. Or equivalent degree in Computer Science / Electronics & Communications Engineering / Electrical Engineering or related branches. Exceptionally well-qualified students with B.Tech./ B.E./M.Tech./M.E./M.Sc. Degrees in other disciplines may also be considered. Exceptionally well-qualified students with a three-year degree in related subjects may be considered for I-Ph.D.

The Candidates not holding a Master’s degree and admitted to a Ph.D./Int. PhD program can receive an M.Sc. degree in some subjects by fulfilling prescribed requirements (see tifr.res.in/~gsoffice for details).
