Osmania University Hyderabad introduce online PhD status monitoring system

Osmania University – In an apparent attempt to contain the propensity of the research scholars to the Examination Branch, the Osmania University of Hyderabad, Telangana has introduced a digital PhD status monitoring system in place. As per the plan, the varsity will assign user ID and password to the research scholars who submit their thesis in the PDF format along with a soft copy after plagiarism check for evaluation. Using the user ID and password, scholars and supervisors can obtain information about the status of the evaluation through the examination branch website, according to a TT report.

Prof. S Ramachandran, Vice-Chancellor, OU inaugurated the system that will be effective from December 15. Citing OU, the report said that the PhD monitoring system would provide details from submission till award of the degree. It would address the postal delay besides students need not to pay a visit to the exam branch to know thesis status, it said.  “OU is the first to introduce such system in the State.

The Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) will be conferred by Osmania University in the Faculties of Arts, Commerce, Management, Education, Law, Social Sciences, Oriental Languages, Science, Technology, Pharmacy, Engineering, Informatics and in such other faculties as may be notified in future, in accordance with the provisions of these rules and regulations in current or amended form, and subject to the conditions laid down herein.


In all the Faculties, a candidate is eligible for registration/admission into PhD course in a subject, if he/she has obtained a Post-Graduate Degree, from a recognized University or a Post Graduate Degree through Distance mode from a recognized University and approved by the Distance Education Council (DEC), New Delhi, in the concerned subject or in an allied subject supported by the Osmania University securing not less than 55% marks at the Post-Graduate Degree and securing not less than 50% marks in the case of SC/ST candidates.

The University has a total number of registered PhD scholars as follows: faculty 564, commerce 218, education 76, engineering/technology 142, law 2, management 367, oriental languages 5, science 1191, social sciences 443 and pharmacy 31.
