SPPU Pune offers post doctoral fellowship for PhD Holders
The Pune, Maharashtra based Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has recently rolled out a post-doctoral fellowship (PDF) programme after completion of Ph.D. for degree holders from science, technology, commerce, humanities, and languages faculties, according to an Indian Express report. This will enable researchers to work without hindrance after completing their PhDs. SPPU says it is the first state university to offer such a fellowship programme, noted the report.
The SPPU has thus become the first State University to offer postdoctoral fellowship. The Savitribai Phule Pune University Post-Doctoral Fellowship (SPPU-PDF) Program for the meritorious Ph.D. degree holders was inaugurated in the presence of Dr. NS Umrani, Pro Vice-Chancellor of SPPU. Prof Dr (Capt) CS Chitale, Prof DS Jog, Prof SR Gadre, Prof Manohar Jadhav, Dr. Rohit Kale, Subodh Khire and Sunil Hedge attended the function, according to a statement issued by the university. Details of the program will be available on sppupdf.unipune.ac.in/ and eligible candidates can apply online tentatively from September 1, 2018.
Post Doctoral Research
Post-doctoral research is an important avenue for researchers who wish to acquire new skills and develop their academic career. What is more, it also creates independent researchers under the guidance of an accomplished mentor. Trained post-doctoral fellows are considered as potential faculty for academic institutes across the globe. All the top academic institutes in the world promote such research activities, but post-doctoral research culture is not widely established in India, said the report.
SPPU officials were quoted as saying by the report stating that the PDF program is aimed at enhancing the quality of research at SPPU and generating trained manpower who will take up research and teaching careers. The fellowships are open to meritorious Ph.D. degree holders who are domicile residents of Maharashtra.
Who can apply?
The researchers would have to be below 32 years of age. An age relaxation of five years for all reserved categories, including women as well as differently-abled candidates will be provided, added the report.
