HSE – Higher School of Economics Russia – Among the plethora of universities in Russia, the Higher School of Economics (HSE) has been ranked consistently as one of Russia’s top universities. Therefore, the Higher School of Economics has successfully achieved the status of a leader in Russian education and it has been regarded as one of the significant economic and social sciences universities in Eastern Europe and Eurasia.

A brief journey of HSE

With the motto of boosting the international competitiveness of Russian universities, HSE has been a member of the 5-100 Russian Academic Excellence Projects which is a highly selective government program since 2013.

National Research University – Higher School of Economics consists of campuses in four cities:

  • Moscow

Each campus is made up of faculties, within which function schools, departments, institutes, and centres.

In 2014, in order to create ‘big’ faculties that brought together existing faculties and schools around thematic academic disciplines, major structural reforms were introduced. For managing educational programmes, faculties are now responsible.

Infrastructure and Programmes

From across Russia and the world, HSE attracts students with a wide range of Bachelor’s programmes and Master’s programmes. HSE offers education at all levels starting from secondary school to doctoral programmes.

At HSE, each year, the opportunities for education in English keep growing to the optimum level. For this academic year (2019), HSE has planned to include 31 English-taught Master’s programmes and 10 English-taught Bachelor’s programmes. Many other full-degree programmes are taught in both Russian and English.

HSE Development Strategy – Primary Objective

Aimed at establishing HSE in the leading world-class scientific and educational, analytical and consulting centre, HSE has been following a set of development strategies for over a decade.

HSE Development Strategy up to 2020

On the basis of Russian Government Order No. 1177-r of August 12, 2008, this particular strategy is prepared with the aim to ensure the competitiveness of HSE ‘in relation to the leading international educational and research centres of a socio-economic profile’

In the field of socio-economic sciences, the strategy covers all activities of the university: education, research, personnel policies, infrastructure development, the dissemination of best practices and knowledge.

HSE Development Programs

Russian Academic Excellence Project (2013–2020)

To ensure that at least five Russian universities rank among the top one hundred of the world’s leading universities the implementation of Russian Presidential Decree No. 599 of May 7, 2012, since HSE was among the winners of an open competition.

Development Program as a National Research University (2009–2018)

As national research universities of Russia’s Ministry of Education and Science, this particular strategy is prepared as part of a development program contest of leading universities.

Program of Innovative Infrastructure Development (2010)

For state support of the development of universities’ innovative infrastructure, this strategy was devised and won the open competition of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science.
