CAT 2018 examination on November 25, 2018

CAT 2018 – The Indian Institute of Management is holding computer-based Common Admission Test (CAT 2018) on November 25 in two sessions. CAT 2018 is a pre-requisite for admission to various postgraduate and Fellow programs of the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). CAT 2018 scores are allowed to be used by listed Non-IIM member institutions as well. A list of such institutions is provided on the CAT website. Therefore, IIMs have no role in the selection process of Non-IIM institutions.

Eligibility for CAT 2018

  • Candidates should have a bachelor degree in any stream from a recognised institution/university
  • Also, aspirants should have secured 50% marks in aggregate (45% for SC/ST/PWD categories) in the qualifying examination
  • CA/ICWA/CS candidates are also eligible to apply for CAT 2018
  • Those candidates who are appearing for the final year of Bachelor degree or equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply
  • Bachelor degree must be of minimum three years
  • There is no upper or lower age limit
  • Applicants should not expect that mere fulfilment of minimum eligibility criteria will not ensure consideration for shortlisting by IIMs

Reservations for CAT 2018

  • As per the legal requirements, 15% of the seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC), 7.5% for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates, 27% of seats for Other Backward Classes candidates belonging to the “Non-Creamy” layer (NC-OBC), and 5% for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PWD)
  • No change in the category will be entertained after CAT registration
  • The applications are advised to give attention while registering

Registration Fees for CAT 2018

  • 950 for SC, ST and PwD category candidates
  • 1900 for all other categories of candidates
  • A candidate needs to pay registration fees only once irrespective of the number of institutes the aspirant is applying for
  • Fees once paid cannot be refunded under any circumstances

Key Dates CAT 2018

  • Registration opened on August 8, 2018
  • Registration closed on September 19, 2018
  • Admit Card download October 24 – November 25, 2018
  • Test Date: November 25, 2018

 

Test Centres

  • CAT will be held in test centres spread across 147 test cities
  • Candidates will be given the option to select any four test cities in order of their preference

Selection Process

  • Every B-school along with IIMs has its selection criteria and cut-off list
  • The first stage for selection includes admission test, academic performance & relevant work experience
  • By a candidate’s performance in the admission test, academic performance and relevant work experience, the candidates will be shortlisted for the second stage of the selection  process
  • The second stage of selection includes – Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussions (GD) and Personal Interviews (PI)
  • Written Test- Candidate has to write on one or more topics a brief essay in the time duration of 15-45 minutes

Group Discussion

  • Around is held where 8-10 candidates are given a particular issue, and they have to discuss it. This is to check the candidate’s group dynamics.

Personal Interview

  • In this round candidate has to present himself/herself before the panel of 4-8 interviewers.
  • This is a final round and is held to check the candidate’s educational qualification, hobbies, interests and work experience
  • Students will be selected for admission by Entrance test, WAT, GD and PI
