IDRBT offers Post Graduate Diploma in Banking Technology – Modern banks are driven by technology. With more and more features getting added to the banking system every day, banks are growing bigger and more technology intensive. There is a growing demand for people who are at the crossroads of both banking and technology. Banking technology is estimated to grow at an exponential pace in the coming years with the rapid increase in online and mobile banking.

Banking technology has an integral role to play in the country’s ambition to be a digital-first economy. And to achieve all these, banks and other financial institutions largely rely on professionals who understand both the banking system and the technology involved behind the scenes.

With the growing demand for banking technology professionals in mind, the apex bank of the country, the Reserve Bank of India, had started an institution in 1996 with a sole focus on training skilled individuals on banking technology. The Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT) is the only such institution in the country. It is governed by a Governing Council with Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India as its chair. The council has renowned educationalists from the premier technology institutions in India including the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) and the Center for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC).

The institution offers a Postgraduate Diploma in Banking Technology (PGDBT) to develop the banking technology skills in graduate professionals. The duration of the course in 1 year and is divided into 4 parts. It is a full-time course offered at the institute’s campus in Hyderabad. The objective of the course is to provide necessary education about the technologies used in the banking sector, their implementation and integration with the banking systems for professionals who can then work on the systems to further develop the technologies for the future.

The admissions are done in two categories – an open category and a sponsored category. For both the categories, the application should be submitted online on the website of IDRBT with an admission fee of Rs.2000. The candidates who are applying for the open category must have completed a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a Master’s degree in any discipline with first class. They must also possess a scorecard from one of the many qualifying examinations. The examinations include CAT, XAT, MAT, GMAT, GRE, CMAT, and ATMA.

Candidates who are appearing for the final year examination can also apply provided that the course is completed by July 2018 Same qualifications are also applicable for the sponsored candidates except that they do not need a qualifying exam scorecard. Instead, the selection process for the sponsored candidates will be based on group discussion and personal interview. The course would cost you Rs.5 lakhs including shared accommodation which can be paid in 3 instalments at the beginning of the first 3 parts.
