Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) 2019

JEST 2019 – On the official website, jest.org.in, the date to conduct Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) has been released According to the latest notification; the exam will be conducted on February 17, 2019. The important details regarding the beginning and the closing of the online application process have been released on the official website – jest.org.in.

For admission to Ph D and Integrated Ph D courses in Physics or Theoretical Computer Science or Neuroscience or Computational Biology, the entrance examination is conducted.

Pre-requisites for JEST 2019:

Master’s degree in Physics is mandatory for all the candidates.

Ph D (Theoretical Computer Science at IMSc): The candidates should hold a master’s degree in Science/ Engineering or Technology in Computer Science and related streams.

Ph D (Neuroscience at NBRC): The candidates should have a master’s degree in Physics or Mathematics, apart from it, bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology or master’s degree in Computer Science.

Ph D (Computational Biology at IMSc): The candidate should possess a postgraduate degree in Science/ Engineering/ Technology/ Computer Application or Science.

BSc (Physics/Mathematics): For National Institute of Science Education and Research, candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree in Physics/ Engineering or Technology in Engineering Physics with 60 per cent marks and above

Integrated MSc/ MTech – PhD (Physics): For Indian Institute of Astrophysics, candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree in Physics/ Mathematics/ Engineering/ Technology.

November 1, 2018- Opening of online application form
December 15, 2018- Final day to submit an application form
January 20, 2019 – Admit card availability
February 17, 2019 – Examination date

JEST Overview                          

JEST is primarily looked upon as a National Eligibility Test (NET). For the JEST, the applicants who are willing to take admission in PhD / Integrated PhD Programme in Physics or Theoretical Computer Science or Neuroscience or Computational Biology in one of the participating institutes may appear at one of the exam centres.

By their office Memo vide OM No.SB/S9/Z-01/2015, the Science & Engineering Research Board (SERB) (a statutory body established through an Act of Parliament) recognizes JEST as a National Eligibility Test (NET). To get an enhanced fellowship, fellows working in SERB programmes and qualified in NETare eligible.

Eligibility criteria will be separately assumed for all the participating institutes.  For the JEST exam of a particular academic year, applicants who are expected to complete their final examinations by August of each year are also eligible to appear.
