Department of Building
The department of building under the School of Design & Environment was incorporated in the year 2000 with the objective of providing focused learning on the Project and Facilities management, an area which is thriving with opportunities but suffering from the lack of skilled resources to handle the work.
B.Sc. Project and Facilities Management
B.Sc. Project and Facilities Management (PFM) is the premier undergraduate course under the Department of Building in NUS. The four-year course integrated technology and management subjects and structured in a way to offer superior knowledge to the students in the field of Project and Facilities Management
The course also offers an option for a second significant degree in management (provided by the NUS Business School) or in techno-management (provided by the partnership between NUS Business School and Faculty of Engineering). There are also options to do a double degree program or a concurrent degree program with M.Sc. (Project Management) offered by the Department of Building itself.
Project and Facilities management is one of the fastest growing fields in the world currently. But it suffers from an acute shortage of skilled professionals with formal education in this field. As an industry that requires both technical and managerial skills, it is suffering from a lack of awareness among the students about the opportunities available. An undergraduate degree in the field will open the gates of opportunity into many Singapore as well as multinational companies across the world.
A high school qualification or a polytechnic diploma with good grades will be required to join the course. Additionally, the University follows the Mother Tongue Language regulation put in place by the Government of Singapore. Student Exchange Programs
NU has tied up with many international universities including Seoul National University and the University of British Columbia. Students have an option to go on a Student Exchange program on these universities during the third year of the course. Students also have the opportunity to do a technopreneurs program in NUS Overseas College at Silicon Valley, New York, and many other locations.
NUS offer’s multiple scholarships for prospective students. Along with the university-level scholarship schemes, the Department of Building also offers its scholarships to the qualifying students.
