Scope of Cybersecurity Jobs in India
Cybersecurity Jobs – The government of India has tried to push the country towards digitilisation post the alarming implementation of demonetization in 2016. In fact, for the cybersecurity professionals, this has led to a drastic increase in demand. In India, there was at least one cybercrime reported every 10 minutes in the first half of 2016. However, to prevent them, the lack of talent has caused the India Inc. to struggle with these threats and invest heavily.
Including the vacancies at leadership levels, at present, there are about 30,000 cybersecurity vacancies in India. For these professionals, the required skills include analytics, engineering, software development, intrusion detection, risk auditing, cryptography, forensic sciences and network security.
In salaries of these profiles, the scarcity in the availability of these professionals has caused a hike. According to the Job Portals, with three years of experience, a cybersecurity professional can make up to 25 lakhs a year, whereas, with more than five years of experience at a multinational, a software developer will be able to make up to 10 lakhs a year.
The ultimate requirement of these professionals is significantly driven by banks, government, retail, BFSI and IT companies, consulting firms and startups. Since they deal with customer data which is highly susceptible to cyber crimes, more B2C businesses hire these professionals.
At a lightning fast speed, the cyberspace is expanding. The cyber crimes happening around the world keep getting more and more complex as it develops. For this reason, a cybersecurity professional has to be continuously updated himself. The candidates available currently in the country have necessary certifications and training, which is not enough.
In India in the cybersecurity space, according to experts about a million more jobs will be generated in the next 5 to 7 years. Nasscom and Symantec have rolled out a curriculum on the subject with ten specialised courses, instead of preparing for future demand. However, to build a system and infrastructure that will create more qualified cybersecurity professionals, government, corporate and educational institutions will have to work together.
Cyber Security Course Pre-requisites
- A qualified Cyber Expert should have specific skills and be able first to clear the following mentioned necessary qualifications:
- Should have completed 10, +2 with good marks in any discipline including Computer Science as a compulsory subject
- Graduation: Although, you can graduate from any stream Software Engineers will always give preference over others. You can also go with a degree in Cyber Security.
- Certification: It is also recommended to do various certification programs in Cyber Security.
