Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur – Courses Offered

Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur was popularly known as SIT established in the year 1963, is one among 125 institutions run by Sree Siddaganga Education Society, headed by Dr Sree Sree Sivakumara Swamiji, a centenarian. He looks after the affairs of more than 125 educational institutions and even at the age of 110 years, Swamiji works 18 hours a day.

Facilities

The Institute is stretched over 65 Acres of lush green land that consist a playground for indoor and outdoor games like Football, Hockey, Cricket and Basketball. It has 8 Hostels that can accommodate nearly 2000 students. It also features well-maintained campus that has high-quality science labs, books and computer library, Conference halls and contemporary classrooms.

SIT campus is spread over 50 acres, and the whole area is landscaped and is lush green. Tumkur enjoys the same salubrious climate as that of Bangalore. At the time of inception, the institute was offering only three branches namely Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering with a total annual intake of 120.

The institute is now offering 12 UG programmes with a total annual intake of 950, and 16 PG Programmes with a total yearly consumption of 432 and 16 departments of the institute are recognised as research centres by Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum, where students can register for PhD programme and M.Sc. by Research. 186 research scholars are pursuing their PhD degree in our research centres, and so far 31 research scholars have obtained PhD degree from our research centres.

All the departments in the institute have well-equipped laboratories. The institute has over 2200 computers and is located in 29 Computer Centres which are all networked with fibre optic backbone. Round the clock internet facility is provided to all the Computer Laboratories, Faculty Chambers, Hostels, Class Rooms, through 100 Mbps leased line.

The total number of students on the campus is over 5000 and more than 50% of the students stay in seven of our hostels. The institute has 330 well qualified and experienced faculty members out of which 103 are PhD holders and others Masters Degree holders. 76 more faculty members are pursuing their PhD programme in IISc, IITs and other reputed universities.

The institute is a beneficiary of the World Bank assisted Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme Phase-I and Phase-II. SIT has the distinction of being one among the four self-financing institutions across the country selected by MHRD, Govt. of India for the establishment of Centre of Excellence in Applied Research and Nano Technology under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) with a grant of Rs. 5 crores.
