The Porur, Chennai-based Sriramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research, a deemed university, graded as Category – I University by the UGC and accredited by NAA with ‘A’ Grade, is commencing M.Sc. courses in Clinical Research and Medical Psychology from this academic year. The last date to apply is October 6, 2018. As per the university statement, the aim of introducing this course to create sufficient human resources for the industries such as biotechnology, pharmaceutical, clinical and medical colleges.

Application forms are invited from eligible candidates for admission to innovative courses such as M.Sc. in Medical Psychology and M.Sc. in Clinical Research. Medical Psychology is a sub-speciality focusing on how biological, psychological and social factors influence health wellness and illness. The medical psychologist will work in the clinical setting along with other medical professionals. What is more, their goal is to promote the overall welfare and to help patients cope with factors that can impact their short and long-term health. They also improve public health and community health. The M.Sc. in Medical Psychology involves the application of theories in comprehending several diseases that are likely to have underlying psychological and psychopathological factors. M.Sc. in Medical Psychology Degree Program

M.Sc. in Medical Psychology Degree Program is a PG degree program offered under CBCS. It is a two-year program consisting of four semesters of study carrying a total credit of 100 under the faculty of allied health sciences. Students register for core theory (CT, core lab (CL), electives and ability enhancement courses. The course includes clinical rotation, which the candidates would undergo during their entire four semesters. The program also offers a research project for each student. Evaluation is on the UGC recommended ten-point grading system. Grades and classes will be declared as per Deemed to be University rules. The total intake is 20 students per academic year.


M.Sc. in Medical Psychology is a two-year course, which is a hospital-based advanced level postgraduate programme. The candidate who is seeking admission for M.Sc. in Medical Psychology is required to hold a Bachelor Degree (BA or B.Sc.) in Psychology or any other Life Science or Health Science degrees of any university recognised by the UGC in regular mode with a minimum of 55% marks or B+ Grade. For SC/ST/OBC category, a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate is essential. The selection will be on the performance in the interview. The duration of the program is two academic years comprising of four semesters in both regular and full-time mode.

M.Sc. in Clinical Research

The M.Sc. in Clinical Research is a professional Masters degree program, which provides a platform for eligible candidates to acquire knowledge and skills in various aspects of clinical research, required in teaching, healthcare, research institutions, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology industries and Research and Development or Clinical Research organisations. The program has opened up a new horizon for employment for a large number of trained professionals in India, and in the overseas backgrounds since new drugs discovery, clinical research and clinical trials are burgeoning across the world, and there is humongous demand for clinical research professionals.

The M.Sc. in Clinical Research Program is a two-year full-time course under the choice based credit system for four semesters. Each year consists of two semesters with 27 credits each in semesters one to three and 19 credits in semester four, totalling 100 credits in two years. The program comprises of a total of 30 courses including 18 theory courses, ten practical courses and one internship course in the clinical trial setting. The elective course (s) option is available for selected students as per their aptitude.


A candidate who seeks admission to M.Sc. in Clinical Research Degree Program should have passed the B.Pharm/Pharm.D/MBBS/BDS/B.Sc./Biomedical Sciences/Genetics/Biotechnology/Allied Health Sciences/Clinical Research or any other Life Sciences degrees, B.Tech (Biotechnology/Genetic Engineering), B.Sc. Nursing Degree of any University recognised by the UGC with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate. For SC/ST/OBC category, minimum of 50% marks in total is essential. A candidate, at the time of admission, needs to submit to the Head of the Institution, a certificate of medical fitness from an authorised medical officer certifying that the candidate is physically fit to undergo the academic course and does not suffer from any disability or contagious diseases.
