Texas A&M University offers Environmental Geosciences Courses. B.S. Environmental Geosciences is an interdisciplinary geosciences degree with course content drawn from meteorology, geology, oceanography and physical geography. In the junior and senior year, Environmental Geosciences majors select one of the following themes: biosphere, climate change, coastal and marine environments, human impact on the environment, or water.
B.S. Environmental Studies is an interdisciplinary degree that balances an education in the geosciences (meteorology, geology, oceanography and physical geography) with environmental policy and the social sciences (economics, human geography, politics, urban planning and sociology). B.S. Environmental Geosciences prepares you for careers involving fieldwork and lab work. B.S.
Environmental Studies prepares you more for careers in policy analysis and compliance. Both majors prepare you for careers in education; local, state and federal government; not-for-profit organizations; private-sector environmental consulting; and business. Both degrees also prepare you well for continuing education, such as law school and master’s degrees in areas such as urban planning, water resources management, natural resource management, conservation, oceanography, geology, geography and atmospheric science. Both programs will expand your knowledge of the environment in order to make you marketable for many types of environmental careers or graduate school.
Practice Geoscience in Field and Laboratory
This Environmental Geosciences degree program provides a solid foundation in the study of Earth and the natural sciences while incorporating background in public policy issues and the social sciences. You will learn how Planet Earth works by studying the interactions between the solid Earth, surface sediments, the world’s Oceans and Atmosphere, and the contemporary dynamic processes at the Earth’s surface. The curriculum also focuses on the study of contemporary environmental issues.
To earn a B.S. in Environmental Geosciences, you should fulfil the 120-hour degree plan.
High-Impact Learning Support
The Environmental Programs in Geosciences supports high-impact learning activities for ENGS and ENST majors, such as undergraduate research, conference participation, study abroad, internship, and specialized training (e.g. OSHA 40). If you receive an award, it will be paid as a scholarship.

Environmental Geosciences and Environmental Studies majors pursue careers in government, natural resources, and environmental consulting. We maintain connections with our former students, following their many successes, through Facebook and LinkedIn. We invite former students to network with our current majors at several events, including Environmental Tailgates and Environmental Careers Panels.
The University’s majors work for environmental consulting firms that prepare impact assessments, seek permits, and conduct remediation. Their job titles include Field Technician, Environmental Scientist, Environmental Geoscientist, and Air Quality Scientist. Some of our majors have obtained J.D. degrees and work for law firms that offer legal counsel relating to environmental compliance.
