Bachelor of Sports, Health and Physical Education (BSportHPE) degree from the University of Auckland is your pathway to becoming a leader and innovator in the exciting worlds of sport, health and physical education. The faculty is globally renowned for their research, teaching and practice in the field of sports health and physical education. You will undertake industry experience to build your knowledge and to identify where your interests lie.
In the three-year Bachelor of Sports, Health and Physical Education programme is designed for students to gain specialised knowledge in one area of interest while also developing a broad general understanding of the worlds of sport, health and physical education. From the second year onwards, students must choose one of five specific pathways such as health education and promotion, sports coaching and leadership, sports science, health and physical education, and dance. To complete a BSportHPE degree, you will need to pass courses totalling at least 360 points.
Where could this programme take you?
You will graduate with an in-depth understanding of the latest research related to the fields of sport, health and physical education. You will have built the skills and knowledge for leading change and becoming an innovator in the industry and your community.
Jobs related to this programme includes community dance teacher, community health promotion adviser, corporate health and wellbeing facilitator, event manager, sports coach, sports programme coordinator and teacher (you will be required to add a one-year graduate diploma in teaching such as the Graduate Diploma in Teaching – Secondary).
Further Study Options
There are other study options such as graduate diploma in teaching (secondary), a graduate diploma in teaching (primary), a graduate diploma in teaching (early childhood education) and social and community leadership.
Being flexible in design, the Bachelor of Sport, Health and Physical Education allows you to take one of five tailored pathways or to mix and match courses to create your own. Your degree will be made up of core (compulsory) courses common to all students studying this degree, elective courses of your choosing and two general education courses. The exciting courses available in each of the pathways include a public path, health and physical education pathway, health education and promotion pathway, sports coaching and leadership pathway, sports science pathway and general education courses.
General education courses
As an undergraduate student, you will include two General Education courses in your degree outside of your primary area of study. This is a great chance to follow other interests or take classes to complement your central field of study.
