Why reading books is important

Reading has always been popularised as a good habit. Children are always encouraged to read stories before going to bed. Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.  –Charles W. Eliot Books –

Reading has been encouraged always because it is supposed to increase a person’s vocabulary and more importantly reading helps him develop a style of expression it is supposed to increase a person’s knowledge.

Reading helps a person to express himself to others he learns words which have different meanings and can be used in different situations.  Other than these reading is a person’s source of acquaintance to the world. It’s through reading that a person gets to know what is happening around the world. He gets to know the news and develops his views he learns to decide for himself, reading makes a man perfect is another quote about reading. It means that when a man reads he comes across all kinds of views about news items etc and by reading all these different views he forms an opinion of his own which projects his character.

Not only this when a person reads he also discovers that there are more appropriate views than his own and then changes his opinion thus he is becoming more mature now.

Reading is a man’s best friend yes because it does not demand anything.

Reading has played a role in evolving a better language.  When he reads he invents a new word a new terminology, he feels a new terminology may be more effective and thus enriches the language. He has tried to introduce new terminology and add new words which he invents by coming in contact with his books. There are certain words in a foreign language which appeal to a person and he starts using it in his language and we find that a new word has taken birth.  Examples of words like pundit, pyjama, have been introduced in English from Hindi .similarly so many words have come into Hindi from English.

Reading is an easy hobby to inculcate because it is not dependent on any external force it does not depend on electricity one can read without the help of electricity an oil lamp or the glow of the fire is all that is required to read at night in case of power failure. We now understand the truth of Charles W Eliot’s words viz        Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.”
