Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU), Hyderabad was established in 1964 and formerly known as Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University. The University was renamed as Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University in 1996 in honour and memory of an outstanding Parliamentarian Acharya N.G. Ranga. It is accredited by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and recognized by UGC. The Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University has developed close functional linkages with various organizations at Regional, State, National and international levels.
The University was formally inaugurated on March 20, 1965 by late Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, the then Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. Another significant milestone was the inauguration of the University’s building program by Smt. Indira Gandhi, the then Hon’ble Prime Minister of India on June 23, 1966.
In accordance with provisions of the University, 1963, some of the Colleges of Agriculture and Veterinary Science, Hyderabad (affiliated to Osmania University), Agricultural College, Bapatala (affiliated to Andhra University), Sri Venkateswara Agricultural College and Andhra Veterinary College, Tiruapti (affiliated to Sri Venkateswara University) were transferred to the new university in June 1964.
