Delhi Institute of Hotel Management & Catering Technology (DIHMCT), Lajpat Nagar was established in 1983 by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India in association with the Government of Delhi for training in trades & crafts in hotel & catering operations. The Institute made a humble beginning from a portion of the Polytechnic building at Kashmere Gate; Delhiand has made a long journey till the shifting of the premise at Lajpat Nagar churning out trained manpower all through.
The growing need of manpower in hotel industry and growth of the hospitality and allied services necessitated up gradation of Food Crafts Institute to a full- fledged Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology in1999. The institute is affiliated to the National Council for Hotel Management, New Delhi, which is apex body to control and conduct examination.

The college would be soon shifting to its new sprawling campus coming up just opposite to the present building. The new campus will have a centrally air conditioned building, latest gadgets which are used in hotels to train the students and a hotel which would be coming up in the next phase of operations.
