The INDIAN AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS RESEARCH INSTITUTE was founded in the year 1930. The institute is located in Pusa, New Delhi, Delhi. The institute spins with a vision to make statistics and ICT for enriching the quality of Agricultural Research. And it travels ahead with a mission to undertake research, education and training in Agricultural Statistics and Computer Applications for Agricultural Research.
The institute functions under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and it was established with an idea to develop new techniques for the design of agricultural experiments as well as to analyze data in agriculture. The institute is also specialized in developing statistical techniques for animal and plant breeding.
In the year 1945 the institute acquired international recognition as a center for research and training in the field of Agricultural Statistics. In the year 1949 it was named as Statistical Wing of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). At the recommendations of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) experts Dr. Frank Yates and Dr. D. J. Finney, in the year 1952 the institute was expanded. On 2 July 1959 the institute was decided to be renamed as the Institute of Agricultural Research Statistics (IARS).
