In the year of 1919, Indian Institute of Technology was founded as an engineering institution in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The institution has more than 10 departments along with the interdisciplinary schools. Initially, before the name could be coined as IIT, was called as the Banaras Engineering College and was connected with Banaras Hindu University. Apart from the academic courses, BHU was the first university in India to set up the Pharmaceutical Chemistry study. As further development, TECHNO, college of technology was established separately and in the year 1968, MINMET, TECHNO, BENCO got merged and formed as Institute of Technology-BHU.
Once the merger of the institutions happened, parallelly departments also got integrated. Undergraduate and postgraduate programmes are been offered and the students intake happens through JEE and GATE.
