The Institute of chemical technology or ICT which is in Mumbai was started as the department of chemical technology on 1st of October in the year 1933 by university of Mumbai with the help of industries and the philanthropists. The Institute was famously known as UDCT, Mumbai. Research has been an integral part of ICT since its inception and it has created over 500 first generation entrepreneurs. Based on its structure UDCT was granted autonomy under UGC regulations by Mumbai university. they are further converted into an institute on the month of January in the year 2002. MHRD declared it as a deemed university on 12th or September 2008. and granted A grade for 38 universities among 135 deemed universities.
It was rated as number one deemed university with A grade. this is only one among 4 in the state of Maharashtra and the other 3 being centrally funded TIRF,TISS and CIFE. among 127 TEQIP funded institutions all over India NPIU has rated ICT as number one institution in 2010. during august 2010 bio spectrum magazine also rated ICT’s biotechnology programme as a number one in the country. it has been given the 1st price on 17th of December at Bangalore.
