The significant and important college in Tamilnadu is Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) established in Coimbatore, Tamilnadu. It was started as an agricultural school at Chennai in the year 1868 and got shifted to Coimbatore in the year 1906. The agriculture college is affiliated to the Madras University and since 1958 the university was approved to offer post graduate and doctoral programmes. Apart from establishing college in Coimbatore, Bapatla also had the privilege to have the second agricultural college. Considering the demand for the agricultural courses, the University offered the integrated B.SC degree program. Next in the time line of TNAU, the third college was set up in Madurai and it was recognised to have Master’s Program since 1969. The headquarters of the college is in Coimbatore. Coimbatore is a centre place to all the integrated courses and other course establishments. TNAU’s constituent unit is Madras Veterinary College and the program was restricted accordingly. The college did not stop with Agricultural programmes rather it extended towards Veterinary Science, Fisheries Science, Home Science and the list continues. The doctoral programmes are available in all three colleges for respective courses. S One of the pride factors of the college is having Cornell University’s dual degree Master Program.
