XAVIER LABOUR RELATIONS INSTITUTE, was founded in the year 1949 by Fr. Quinn Enright, S.J. in the Steel City of Jamshedpur. Fr. Enright visualized XLRI to be a partner in the liberation and development journey of the independent India with a vision of “renewing the face of the earth”. In order to bring that vison to fruition Fr. Bill Tome joined hands with Fr. Quinn Enright. Both, together along with the other Jesuit companions, worked tirelessly to realize their dream. Along with the agenda of giving quality education to the people of India the institute was focused in adding strengths to the development of India.
Over many years in the field of education XLRI has architected its own identity. One of the important aspect in architecting its own identity is to not walk on the beaten path but to strike new routes to enhance and enlighten students. The institution functions with a vision and slogan “not to benchmark but to be benchmarked, to be second to none but to be the first to respond to the needs of the people and the nation.”
The India Today in the year 2017 had ranked XLRI at number 3. In the same year Outlook and Business Today had ranked the institution at 3 in the overall category.
