Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2019 – It is that time of the year for students where all the entrance exams are lined up. While there are a lot of exams for the undergraduate engineering courses, students aspiring for their post-graduation in Engineering has only one name in their mind – Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering – GATE.

GATE is the qualifying examination for studying postgraduate and doctoral programs in the Indian Institutes of Technology across the country (IITs) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc). The test is conducted by all the IITs and IISc on a rotational basis. This year, by the rotational formula, GATE will be organised by the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M). Though the examination is defined as an entrance for the postgraduate and doctoral courses in IITs and IISc, many other institutions also make admissions based on the GATE score. Also, many public sector undertakings and a few other prominent organisations hire engineering graduates based on their GATE score. In recent days, GATE score has become one of the essential qualifying factors for engineering graduation and subsequent employment.

GATE examination has 23 disciplines. All 23 papers will be conducted by an online computer based test (CBT). A candidate can appear in only one of the papers. GATE score obtained will be valid for the next three years. The examination for this year will be conducted over four days – 2nd, 3rd, 9th, and 10th of February, 2019.

For GATE 2019, IITM, the organising institution has announced the important dates for the application process and had also commenced the application process from September 1. The application process is entirely online, and the candidates have to fill the form at GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) website hosted by the organising institution. There will be a registration fee of Rs.750 for SC, ST, Physically Challenged and women candidates and Rs.1500 for everyone else. International candidates appearing for GATE should pay a fee of USD 50. Candidates have time until October 3, 2018, to complete the online application. There is also an option to change the city of examination till November 16, 2018, for an additional fee.

The admit card with the venue of the examination centre will be issued on January 4, 2019, and the exam will be conducted over four days in February. The results of the examination will be declared on March 16, 2019, and the counselling process for the admission to IITs and IISc will commence in April.

To apply for a postgraduate engineering degree, the candidate must have completed a four-year undergraduate engineering degree (BE / BTech) or a three-year lateral entry degree after completing diploma. Students who will be appearing for the final year examination can also apply. For all other courses, detailed eligibility criteria are available at the website of IITG.
