What is JEE (Main) 2017?

Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main-2017 is conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) every year for taking admission to Bachelor of Engineering (B.E), Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech), Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) and Bachelor of Planning (B.Plan) programs at NITs, IIITs, other centrally funded technical institutions, institutions funded by several participating state governments, and several other institutions for the session 2017. This year, JEE (Main) paper I and paper II offline will be held on Sunday, April 02, 2017 and online paper I will be held on Saturday, April 08, 2017 and Sunday, April 09, 2017.

Around 1.3 million aspirants appear for JEE Main every year out of which 25,000 qualify for admission to the NITs and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTI). Depending on the marks obtained in JEE Main, the top 1.5 lakh shall become eligible to appear for JEE (Advanced) and about 25,000 candidates are ranked. JEE Advanced is conducted for taking admission to undergraduate programs in IIT’s located in Bhubaneswar, Bombay, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jodhpur, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Mandi, Madras, Palakkad, Patna, Ropar, Roorkee, Tirupati, Banaras Hindu University (IIT-BHU) Varanasi and Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad.

Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) have declared a scholarship scheme for top meritorious candidates who will secure All India Ranks (AIR) upto 2000 in JEE Main 2017. The score and rank of Paper-I of JEE (Main) – 2017 for all candidates will be declared by 27th April 2017.

Important Dates:

  • Start date of online registration: Sunday, December 01, 2016.
  • Last date for application: Monday, January 16, 2017.
  • Last date for paying the fee: Tuesday, January 17, 2017.
  • Date of JEE (Main):
    • For paper I/paper II (offline): Sunday, April 02, 2017.
    • For paper I (online): Saturday, April 08, 2017 and Sunday, April 09, 2017.

Eligibility Criteria for JEE (Main) 2017

Joint Entrance Examination (Main 2017) will be conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for admission to undergraduate engineering programs at NITs, IIITs, other centrally funded technical institutions, participating state government institutions etc. The JEE (Main) paper I and paper II offline will be held on Sunday, April 02, 2017 and online paper I will be held on Saturday, April 08, 2017 and Sunday, April 09, 2017.

Eligibility Criteria for JEE Main 2017:

Date of Birth:

  • General Candidates: Born or after October 01, 1992.
  • Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Person with Disabilities (PwD) candidates: Born or after October 01, 1987.

Note: Date of birth as recorded in the Secondary Education Board/University certificate will only be considered.

  • Year of Appearance in Qualifying Examination (QE):
    • Only those candidates who have passed their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2015 or2016; or those who are appearing in their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2017 are eligible to appear in JEE(Main)- 2017.
    • Candidates who passed Class 12th/Qualifying examination in 2014 or before as well as those who will appear in such examination in 2018 or later are not eligible to appear in JEE (Main) – 2017. Candidates who appeared in class 12th/equivalent qualifying Examinations in 2014, did not pass in 2014, but passed in 2015 are also not eligible to appear in JEE (Main) 2017.
  • Number of Attempts: The number of attempts which a candidate can avail at JEE (Main) shall be limited to 03 (three).
  • Number of Attempts and Age Limit for the States of Madhya Pradesh and Odisha: Since the states of Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland and Odisha have joined JEE (Main) system from 2014. The age limit, for admission to institutions in these states which were earlier admitting candidates based on their state level examinations, will be as per their past practice only. The number of attempts in such cases will also remain same as per their past practice. This will, however, be obviously not applicable for admission to IITs/ NITs/ IIITs/ CFTIs.

How to Apply for JEE (Main) 2017

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced the exam dates for Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main-2017. JEE (Main) is conducted for taking admission to Bachelor of Engineering (B.E), Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech), Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) and Bachelor of Planning (B.Plan) programs at NITs, IIITs, other centrally funded technical institutions, institutions funded by several participating state governments, and several other institutions for the session 2017. The JEE (Main) paper I and paper II offline will be held on Sunday, April 02, 2017 and online paper I will be held on Saturday, April 08, 2017 and Sunday, April 09, 2017.

Application Procedure for JEE Main 2017:

  • Candidates can apply online.
  • The online submission of particulars, uploading of scanned photograph and signature may be made at JEE (Main) website.
  • Before filling up the application form the candidate should have a scanned image of his/her photograph and signature. These scanned images are to be uploaded during the submission of application form. The photograph should be colour or b/w (but clear contrast) with name of the candidate and date of taking the photograph printed on it.

The fee can be remitted in the following ways:

  • By Debit/Credit Card
  • Through E-challan generated after successful submission of online application form.
