NEET mandatory for Veterinary Science undergraduate program

NEET – Those candidates who want to pursue undergraduate program in veterinary science and animal husbandry under all India quota (15%) for the academic year 2019-20 in recognised educational institutions, it is now mandatory to clear the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test or NEET UG 2019 held by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on May 5, 2019.

Quoting M Senthilkumar, Puducherry (Pondicherry) State Veterinary Council Registrar, a TOI report said that in a notification, the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries and Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Ministry declared that the Veterinary Council of India will use the NEET UG 2019 qualified merit list for admitting students into BVSc and Animal Husbandry degree courses in recognized veterinary colleges in India except for Jammu and Kashmir under 15% pan India quota.


  • The candidates should have completed 17 years of age on or before December 31 of the year in which the admission is being sought
  • The candidates should have passed Higher Secondary Examination or Indian School Certificate Examinations with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as mandatory subjects and studied English at a level not less than core course of English as prescribed by the NCERT
  • For the candidates who have completed the course which was not mandated as 10+2, they will have to undergo a one-year pre-professional training before seeking admission to the veterinary course
  • Those who have passed BSc with not less than any of the two subjects among Physics, Chemistry and Biology are also eligible to apply, provided they had cleared the previous examinations with PCB and English as elective subjects

Applying procedure

  • The application process is done online as follows:
  • Visit the official website of NEET UG
  • Select candidates login link under the Online Service at the Home Page
  • Click on New User Registration link at the redirected page
  • Register with a valid number and e-mail ID
  • Log in with the user ID, and password received
  • Fill the requisite details and upload the documents such as passport sized photograph, signature and left-hand thumb impression and click on the Submit button
  • Proceed to pay the application fee Net Banking/Credit/Debit cards

Fee structure

For General and OBC candidates, the fee is Rs. 1400 and for SC/ST/PWH candidates the fee is Rs.750

  • The medium of examination in eleven languages such as Assamese, English, Hindi, Kannada, Urdu, Odia, Gujarati, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil and Marathi
