What is NIFT 2017?

National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), New Delhi has announced the exam dates for NIFT Entrance Exam-2017, which will be conducted in February 2017. The NIFT exam will be held on Sunday, February 12, 2017.

NIFT is conducted for taking admission to Bachelor of Design (B.Des) in Accessory Design, Fashion Communication, Fashion Design, Knitwear Design, Leather Design and Textile Design, Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.FTech) in Apparel Production, Master of Design (M.Des), Master of Fashion Management (MFM) and Master of Fashion Technology (MFT) programs offered at Bangalore, Bhopal, Chennai,Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Kannur, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, Patna, Raebarelli, Shillong, Kangra, Jodhpur, Srinagar and Bhubaneswar campuses for the commencing session 2017.

Eligibility Criteria for NIFT 2017:

  • For B.Des Programs: Candidates should have:
    • The +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized central/state board of secondary examination, such as CBSE / state board New Delhi, and council for Indian school of certificate examination, New Delhi. Or
  • General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/Sri-Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level/ International Baccalaureate (IB).
  • For M.Des Program: Candidates should have:
    • Undergraduate degree from any institute recognized by law in India. Or
    • Diploma in UG Design from NIFT/NID only.
  • Undergraduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT / NID.

About NIFT 2017:

Candidates can apply online. The application fee (Rs.1500/ for general/OBC (non-creamy) category and Rs.750/- for SC/ ST/ PHP category) has to be paid through online payment gateway or through bank Demand Draft issued in favour of “NIFT HO” payable at New Delhi.

The written entrance examination is designed to test the knowledge, skill and aptitude of the candidates for the program opted. There is no negative marking.

Important Dates:

  • Last date for filling up online application: Tuesday, January 10, 2017.
  • Last date for online registration with late fees of Rs.5000/-: Monday, January 16, 2017.
  • Availability of admit card (online only): Saturday, January 21, 2017.
  • Date of admission test: Sunday, February 12, 2017.
  • Date of situation test/ group discussion/ interview: April – May 2017.
  • Date of declaration of final result (online): end of May/ June 2017.
  • Date of counseling: June 2017 onwards.

Eligibility Criteria for NIFT 2017:

For B.Des Program:

    • The +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education / State Board New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi. Or

General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri-Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level/ International Baccalaureate (IB). Or

  • Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in Foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system. Or
  • A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects. Or
  • 3 or 4-years diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.

 

For B.FTech Program

  • The +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Or
  • General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri- Lanka) at the advanced (A) level with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics / International Baccalaureate (IB). Or
  • Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Or
  • A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Or
  • 3 or 4-years diploma in any branch of Engineering recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education

For M.Des Program:

  • Undergraduate Degree from any Institute / University recognized by law in India. Or
  • Diploma in UG Design from NIFT/NID only.
  • Undergraduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT / NID.
  • Note: Design Space is an advanced course that demands an understanding of fundamentals in design and presupposes that candidates would be familiar with the basic skills and theories for successful completion of the program. M.Des. would not provide any basic knowledge and skill development in design as a part of Master program. The program provides an option to students to earn final semester credits through ‘Course Work’ or a ‘Dissertation’.

For MFM Program: Candidates should have:

  • Undergraduate Degree from any Institute / University recognized by law in India. Or
  • Undergraduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT / NID.

For M.FTech Program:

  • B.F.Tech. from NIFT . Or
  • B.E / B.Tech. from any Institute / University recognized by law in India.

Paper Pattern for NIFT

NIFT Entrance Exam-2017 is the common entrance test being conducted every year by the National Institute of Fashion Technology for the admission to Bachelor of Design (B.Des) in Accessory Design, Fashion Communication, Fashion Design, Knitwear Design, Leather Design and Textile Design, Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.FTech) in Apparel Production, Master of Design (M.Des), Master of Fashion Management (MFM) and Master of Fashion Technology (MFT) programs.

Paper Pattern for NIFT 2017:

  • The written entrance examination is designed to test the knowledge, skill and aptitude of the candidates for the program opted.

  • General Ability Test (GAT) for B.Des and M.Des: This test will comprise of various section as given below –
    • Quantitative Ability: This sub-test is designed to test the quantitative ability of the candidates. The sub test consists of questions on Addition, Multiplication, Division, Fractions, Percentage, Rate of Interest, Work and Task, Ratio and Proportion, and Distance.
    • Communication Ability: This sub-test is aimed at testing the language ability of the candidates in day to day communication in English. It includes questions on synonyms, antonyms, words with corresponding meanings, singular, plural, one word substitutes, idioms and phrases, correct spellings, etc.
    • English Comprehension: This sub-test is to test one’s ability to comprehend a situation from a given passage and test of basic English language.
    • Analytical Ability: This sub-test is designed to test the candidate’s inference and logic from the given information.
    • General Knowledge and Current Affairs: This sub-test is designed to test the candidate’s general knowledge and current affairs.
    • Creative Ability Test (CAT): This test is administered to judge the intuition skill, power of observation, innovation in development of a concept and design ability of the candidate. An important aspect of the test is the creative and innovative medium use of color and illustration skills.
  • Shortlisted candidates for B.Des from the written entrance examination are required to take a Situation Test which is a hands-on test to evaluate the candidate’s skills for material handling and innovative ability on a given situation with a given set of materials.
  • General Ability Test (GAT) for B.FTech, MFM, M.Des and M.FTech: This test will comprise of various section as given below:

Concepts and practice of creative and lateral thinking are likely to be useful.
    • General Knowledge and Current Affairs: This sub-test is designed to test the candidate’s general knowledge and current affairs.
    • Case Study: This sub-test is based on a situation of an industry environment. It helps to evaluate the candidate’s managerial ability. M.F. Tech will also have some questions from engineering field. The number of questions may vary in each section and for each course year to year. The level of difficulty in questions for all courses will vary. Short listed candidates from the written entrance examination are required to undergo Situation test/Group Discussion (GD) / Interview as applicable (except B.F.Tech).

How to Apply for NIFT 2017:

  • Candidates can apply online.
  • Fill the details to register for any program. You must have a valid email ID for applying online.
  • Step-1: Essential Documents to be made ready:
    • Valid Email ID (the email should be valid for atleast 1 year)
    • Personal and Educational qualification details
    • Caste / Tribe/ Class certificate (for SC / ST/ OBC candidate)
    • Disability Certificate for Persons with Disabilities
    • Image of scanned photograph in jpg / jpeg format and size should not exceed 50 KB
    • Image of scanned signature in jpg / jpeg format and size should not exceed 50 KB
    • Demand draft of requisite amount ( 1500/- in case of GEN/OBC (Non-Creamy) candidates and 750/- in case of SC/ST/PHP candidates) drawn in favour of “NIFT HO”, payable at New Delhi in case making payment DD. Debit / Credit Card details in case making online payment.
  • Step 2: Already Logged In candidate log in to complete the process of filling online application form
    • Action 1: Fill Application: Fill the details on the online application form. Since your eligibility will be screened based on the information furnished by you, you are required to exercise sufficient care to correctly furnish the details of your qualification, etc.
    • Action 2: Uploading image (Photograph and Signature)
    • Action 3: Make Payment: There are two options available for payment of admission fee as given below:
    • Payment through Debit Card / Credit Card: Keep the Debit Card / Credit Card Details handy.
    • In case you wish to change the category, click button “Home” and then click button “Action 1: Fill Application” so that the application form will be opened. After editing the information, make sure to save the information by clicking the button “SAVE”. Now click button “Home” and then click button “Action 3: Make Payment” and proceed for the payment.
    • Payment through Demand Draft: In case payment option selected is demand draft follow the procedure given below:
    • Make demand draft in favour of “NIFT HO”, payable at New Delhi of applicable application fee (1500/- in case of GEN/OBC(Non-Creamy) candidates and 750/- in case of SC/ST/PHP candidates).The details of the demand draft are to be filled in the online application form.
    • Action 4: Print Application
  • Candidates are advised to check the following details carefully before sending the demand draft:
  • DD made in favour of “NIFT HO”
  • Amount of Demand Draft as applicable i.e. 1500/- in case of GEN/OBC (Non-Creamy) candidates and 750/- in case of SC/ST/PHP candidates
  • Signature of the issuing authority on the demand draft.
  • Step 3: Check the status of your application
  • Step 4: Download (Print) the Admit Card
  • Candidates applying through demand draft are required to send the printout of the application form, duly completed in all respect, along with Demand Draft to Project Manager – CMS, All India Management Association Management House, 14, Institutional Area, Lodhi Road, New Delhi – 110003.
