IIT Madras and Nasscom ally to skill four million students and employees
IIT M – The Information Technology Industry has witnessed exponential growth over the years. To help creature future employees who are ready for these futuristic jobs, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT M) and Nasscom have allied to skill more than four million students.
On December 15, Nasscom had announced the partnership it had forged with IIT M to the media and said that the alliance with the IIT M was with the stated objective of providing skill development for students and employees in the IT sector and IT-enabled service (ITeS).
A press statement issued by Nasscom said, “India has no shortage of people looking for jobs, but poor skill development has made them unemployable. India’s IT sector is a robust zone, and this partnership is aimed at building an able workforce to support the industry and other stakeholders.”
“This collaboration is in line with Nasscom’s FutureSkills Platform, that is targeted at reskilling or upskilling four million people from the IT-ITeS industry, students entering the workforce and employees of other industries and government who need to learn digital skills of the future,” a Nasscomm statement said.
Immediately after the announcement, the Twitter handle, NASSCOMFutureSkills said, “A landmark moment as @Nasscom signed MoU with @iitmadras. This collaboration is in line with #NASSCOMFutureSkills porta which aims to #UpSkill 4M IT-ITeS students/professionals in digital skills of the future.”
The partnership for skill development will initiate the following things:
- The partnership will help Nasscom build a future-ready workforce, ready to work with emerging technologies
- This will ensure that there is plenty of trained human resources for the jobs being created in the evolving ecosystem
- The joint initiative will be direct with the Sector Skills Council (SSC) which is the education and skill development initiative of Nasscom
- The SSC and IIT Madras will work towards building a skills academy and establish a program with extensive courses and training programs to facilitate skill building in the institution
