TNPSC Group II Examination 2018: In the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission Group II Examination 2018, 457,000 candidates appeared in the preliminary round, which was held to fill 1,199 positions like Municipal Commissioner, Supervisor of Industrial Cooperatives, Assistant Section Officer, Handloom Inspector in Local Fund Audit Department, Revenue Assistant, Assistant Inspector of Labour, Officer in Town Panchayat, Probation Officer in Social Defence Department, Junior Employment Officer, Industrial Cooperative Officer and Sub Registrar

K. Nanthakumar, Secretary, TNPSC is quoted as saying by The Hindu report, “A total of 74% of admitted candidates have appeared for the examination. No misbehaviour or indiscipline in the examination hall was reported.” What is more, during the previous Group II examination, 73% of the candidates had appeared for the exam, noted the report.

Selection process

Selection of candidates for the Group II posts will be made in three successive stages — preliminary examination, main written examination and oral test. The examination was conducted in 2,268 venues across the State. As many as 997 scribes were appointed for persons with disabilities. As many as ten candidates of the third gender were admitted for the examination. After scrutiny of the applications, TNPSC had admitted 3.54 lakh women and 2.72 lakh men to appear for the exam. A total of 4.8 lakh candidates were admitted to take General Studies with General Tamil. Just 1.45 lakh candidates were admitted to take General Studies with General English.

Wrong options

A few candidates claimed that all the four options for one of the questions had wrong answers. The question was on the Raja of Panagal Ramarayaningar. However, his name was not given in the options, said a candidate. Candidates claimed that caste names of leaders such Periyar were mentioned in the question paper. The options provided for the question on the founder of Thiruchengode Ashram were — E.V. Ramasamy Naicker, Rajaji, Gandhiji and C.N. Annadurai, added the report.

The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) was established in 1929 and got its present name in the year 1970. TNPSC is responsible for recruitment of personnel into various departments of Tamil Nadu.

Every year TNPSC conducts the Group II exam for the selection of various posts in different departments of Tamil Nadu Government.  It comprises of Preliminary Exam, Main Exam and Interview. The online application started on August 10, the last date for payment of examination fee was September 11, the preliminary examination got over yesterday, and the results will be announced in February next year. The main exam will be held in May 2019, and the results would be published in August next year.

Industrial Cooperative Officer 30 posts, Probation Officer in Social Defence department 12, Junior Employment Officer (Non-Differently Abled) 16, Probation Officer in Prison Department 18, Assistant Inspector of Labour 26, Sub Registrar Grade II 73, Special Assistant 2, Municipal Commissioner Grade II 6, Assistant Section Officer in Law Department 16; ASO Finance Department 16, ASO in TN State Assembly Secretariat 1, ASO in TNPSC 4, ASO cum Programmer in TNPSC 2, Supervisor of Industrial Co-operatives 39, Audit Inspector 31; Assistant Inspector 98; Handloom Inspector 23; Senior Inspectors 599, Supervisor/Junior Superintendent 118, Audit Assitant in Accounts Branch 9, Executive Officer Grade II one and Revenue Assistant in Revenue Department 11.
